Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa TR59/60 Fantuzzi Spyder S/N 0774TR 1959
1959 Le Mans Race Poster REPRODUCTION.
June 20 & 21, 1959.
It measures approximately:16 x 22 inches40 x 56 cm
The 1959 Le Mans poster is part of the so-called "Major Illustrators" era in Le Mans posters which lasted from 1954 - 1963 and in which the cream of the crop of French motorsport illustrators such as Geo Ham, Jeudon and Beligond were hired for the design of the race posters.
The design of the 1959 poster was by Michel Beligond and was his second work for the Le Mans 24 hours race.
Beligond was preceded by Geo Ham and Jeudon and the switch to this relatively new artist immediately gave a more realistic rendering of the race.
The drivers running towards their cars in the typical Le Mans start with the international flag flying over the pit box building. With a little good will, one can see a Ferrari and a Jaguar ready to be taken to the tarmac by their sprinting drivers.
The race was won by Roy Salvadori and Carroll Shelby in their Nr 5 Aston Martin DBR1/300 (S/N 2) with a total of 323 laps to their name.
