1953 Photo Grand Prix of Italy Monza Fangio Ascari Farina Marimon Ferrari Maserati

italy1953-01
!

1953 Photo - Grand Prix of Italy - Monza - Fangio, Ascari, Farina, Marimon - Ferrari - Maserati.

This is an original photo of Giuseppe "Nino" Farina on Ferrari 500, Alberto Ascari on Ferrari 500, Juan Manuel Fangio on Maserati A6GCM-53 and most probably Onofre Marimon also on Maserati A6GCM-53 during the final stages (maybe even the last lap!) of the 1953 Gran Premio d'Italia at the Autodromo di Monza.

Fangio would win the race ahead of Farina, Villoresi and Hawthorn, all on Ferrari.

The difference between Farina and Fangio was a mere 1.4 seconds while Villoresi and Hawthorn were 1 lap behind.

In the words of the Grand Master himself:
Ascari, who stood between me and the victory I needed so badly, took the final curve very sharply and his Ferrari did a half spin. He was hit by Marimon. Farina, whom I had only just overtaken and was breathing down my neck, had to swerve to avoid hitting them. In that split second of danger I was through, winning literally in the 312th mile of a 312-mile race. There was such confusion when we crossed the line that the man didn't put down the chequered flag, so I did another lap with Farina behind me, but all the time I thought they had make a mistake. They say I was almost hysterical that day, and I'm not surprised, although as a rule I'm usually rather calm.

It measures some 9.5 x 7 inches (24 x 17.5 cm) and is black & white.

This appears to be a somewhat more recent print.

Vintage June 1955 Domenica del Corriere Alberto Ascari deadly crash in Ferrari at Monza

Vintage June 1955 Domenica del Corriere - Alberto Ascari deadly crash.

This is a vintage & original June 5 1955 issue of Italian magazine "Domenica del Corriere" which pays attention to the untimely death of Italian racing ace Alberto Ascari.

On May 26, 1955 Alberto tried out the Ferrari 750 Monza (S/N 0562M) which he was to share with Eugenio Castellotti at the Autodromo di Monza. In the third lap, the car started to skid unexplicably, summersaulted and Alberto was slung from the car onto the track where he died a couple of minutes later.

The (fast!) corner where this accident happened, the "Curva di Vialone", was later renamed "Variante Ascari" in his honour.

Since there is no photographic account of the accident itself or the aftermath, the magazine had to make do with a more than excellent and very dramatic artist's impression which shows Alberto being slung from the car. That image is used on a full page which makes it excellently suited for framing.

Furthermore, there is a full page account of the accident including drawings of the path of the car and it pays attention to earlier, similar, accidents and the crash of Alberto's father, Antonio Ascari, at Montlhery in 1925.

Excellent condition for its age!

Vintage 1958 close-up photograph of a concentrated Mike Hawthorn, complete with his trademark helmet and beautie, at the wheel of his Ferrari Dino 246 during his 1958 World Championship winning season.

Unfortunately it is unknown where the photo was taken but judging by the back drop, this could very well be the Italian Grand Prix at Monza where Mike finished second behind Tony Brooks on Vanwall.

The photo measures some 13 x 18 cm or 5 x 7 inches and carries a copyright stamp on the back.

This is a vintage print, i.e. printed shortly after the original image was captured on film and is in more than excellent condition.

1959 Photo of Tony Brooks on Ferrari 246 and Bruce McLaren on Cooper Climax at the Grand Prix of Italy at Monza.

This is a great photo of Tony Brooks in his # 30 Ferrari 246 being chased by Bruce McLaren on Cooper T51 Climax in the very first lap of the 1959 Gran Premio d'Italia at the Autodromo di Monza.

Tony would fail to complete the first lap due to clutch problems while Bruce's engine gave up the ghost in lap 22.

It measures some 9.5 x 6.5 inches (24 x 16 cm) and is black & white.

It appears to be a more modern print.

Wolfgang would finish the race in 5th position.

The photo measures some 17.5 x 24.5 cm or some 7 x inches and is in mint condition.

This is a vintage 1961 B&W photo of the pack coming through the Parabolica turn during the 1961 Grand Prix of Italy at the Autodromo di Monza.

The photo shows not less than FIVE of the famous Ferrari 156 Sharknose cars in 1 single view!

This race would of course go down in hisory as one of the most dramatic ever as seconds after this photo was taken, the Ferrari of Wolfgang von Trips and the Lotus of Jim Clark would get tangled up and von Trips would lose his life in the resulting crash.

Going through the cars in the picture, starting at the bottom, we see the following drivers:

It is amazing to see that only 2 out of the above 9 drivers are still alive today...

This photo measures a staggering 12 x 9.5 inches.

It is in mint condition for its age.

Please note that this photo is too big for our scanner so we had to digitally "stich" two scans together to be able to present the total image. The horizontal line at the bottom of the image is a result of that. This is NOT visible in the actual photo!

The back carries the photographer's stamp.
