Vintage Original 1963 24 Hours of Le Mans Poster.

June 15 & 16, 1963

Measures approximately:
40 x 57 cm
15.5 x 22.5 inches

Absolutely stunning, totally mint condition.

The 1963 Le Mans poster is part of the so-called "Major Illustrators" era in Le Mans posters which lasted from 1954 - 1963 and in which the cream of the crop of French motorsport illustrators such as Geo Ham, Jeudon and Michel Beligond were hired for the design of the race posters.

The poster shows a fantastic image, by G. Laygnac, of the winning make of the previous year, Ferrari.

Although the 1962 winner is depicted, the poster is of a much more symbolic nature than previous years.

The idea of time is overwhelmingly present, as is that of speed which is symbolized by the whirlpool.

This poster marked the end of an era after which illustrations would be replaced by photographs.

The race itself was won by Lorenzo Bandini and Ludovico Scarfiotti in their Nr 21 Ferrari 250 P S/N 0814 with a total of 339 laps to their name.

1967 Pedro Rodriguez Protos F2 Enna Crash Steering Wheel

1967 Pedro Rodriguez Protos F2 Enna Crash - Steering Wheel.

Here we have a VERY special and TOTALLY unique item albeit not of Ferrari origin but since Pedro Rodriguez was such a prominent Ferrari personality, we felt it was appropriate to feature this item here.

In the 1967 season, it was quite normal for hot-shot Formula 1 drivers to also compete in the Formula 2 championship and so did Pedro Rodriguez eventhough he was a Cooper works F1 driver at that time.

On August the 20th, 1967 Pedro drove the Ron Harris entered Protos Cosworth F2 in the "Gran Premio del Mediterraneo" at the Enna track on Sicily.

The Protos F2 was quite a special car which was designed by Frank Costin with a chassis that was largely made of wood and which featured an enclosed cockpit!

During the race, Pedro was battling it out with Jean-Pierre Beltoise for second place, lost it and crashed the car heavily, thus smashing it to matchwood!

According to the person that salvaged this steering wheel from the wreck, it was, apart from the engine(!), the largest surviving part of the car!

During the crash, Pedro was launched from the car, still strapped in his seat and so passed leader Jackie Stewart who later stated that he had never been challenged for the lead in a race by someone without a car...

Amazingly enough, Pedro only suffered a broken heel in this massive crash.

Ray Buckley, who was the team mechanic at the Ron Harris racing team salvaged the steering wheel and later, when he was employed by the Hesketh F1 team, passed it on to David Phelbs who had it mounted as presented and offered for sale now.

The steering wheel gives a good impression of how massive this shunt must have been....

The front of this mounting shows of course this very original steering wheel, a photo of Pedro and a caption.

The rear shows the declaration of David Phelbs and how he got to this steering wheel + a copy of an interview with Pedro on this shunt.

Along with it comes an original copy "Autosport" with a write up on the race and the accident.

Truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire such a unique item in such unmolested condition (after all, this is how it came out of the crash!) with such excellent provenance.

Only 1 available.

Pedro Rodriguez Ferrari 312P S/N 0870 Nurburgring 1000 KM Rennen 1969 Poster

P0403004
!

Pedro Rodriguez Ferrari 312P Nurburgring 1000 KM 1969 Poster.

A truely great poster of Pedro Rodriguez flying his Ferrari 312P S/N 0870 over Brunnchen during the 1969 1000KM at the Nurburgring. The car, S/N 0870, suffered from ignition failure and retired but not before setting the fastest lap in the race.

The caption reads as follows:

"Ferrari did not care too much about sports car racing in 1969. They only sent one car to most of the races which had to fight against four or more Porsches. Despite flying hard here at Brunnchen the 312P retired with ignition problems. The 312 P meant a change in shape from the round bodywork in 1967 to a more arrow-shape darting through the air, with more grip achieved through various added spoilers"

Photography by Alois Rottensteiner.

It measures approximately 26.8 x 16.8 inches or 68 x 42 cm.

The hazy scan does not do justice to this very fine poster.

This poster will be shipped, rolled, in a sturdy tube.
