Vintage Original 1958 24 Hours of Le Mans Poster in Mint Condition

Vintage Original 1958 24 Hours of Le Mans Poster.

June 21 & 22, 1958.

It measures approximately:
11 x 15 inches
28 x 38 cm

This is an extremely scarce example of the 1958 24 Heures du Mans poster.

It is in in as mint a condition as a poster of over half a century old can be; truly SPECTACULAR!

The 1958 Le Mans poster is part of the so-called "Major Illustrators" era in Le Mans posters which lasted from 1954 - 1963 and in which the cream of the crop of French motorsport illustrators such as Geo Ham, Jeudon and Beligond were hired for the design of the race posters.

The design of the 1958 poster was by Michel Beligond and was his first work for the Le Mans 24 hours race.

Beligond was preceded by Geo Ham and Jeudon and the switch to the new artist immediately gave a more realistic rendering of the race.

The car is going into the Dunlop curve, just having passed under the famous Dunlop bridge.

The night and the crowd are of course present but Beligond is not too concerned about depicting a real race but instead shows the make that was favorite for the 1958 race, Ferrari!

The race was indeed won by Olivier Gendebien and Phil Hill in their Nr. 14 Ferrari 250 TR58 0728TR with a total of 305 laps to their name.

For the full results of this race, please see 24 Heures du Mans results 1958.

This poster is VERY scarce and will be shipped, rolled, is a VERY sturdy (PVC) tube.

This is a vintage 1960 photograph of Count Wolfgang Berghe von Trips, taking off in his Ferrari 246P F1 after a pit-stop during the 1960 Grand Prix of Italy at the Autodromo di Monza.

Wolfgang would finish the race in 5th position.

The photo measures some 17.5 x 24.5 cm or some 7 x inches and is in mint condition.

Vintage Original 1961 Le Mans Flyer

Vintage 1961 Le Mans Handbill / Flyer.

These flyers were handed out at the race to spectators to show them around the track.

Very scarce as most of them were tossed away after the race or disappeared into the mists of time.

The cover matches the image of the 1961 race poster which is after a color illustration which was part of the so-called "Major Illustrators" era in Le Mans posters which lasted from 1954 - 1963 and in which the cream of the crop of French motorsport illustrators such as Geo Ham, Jeudon and Michel Beligond were hired for the design of the race posters.

The poster shows a fantastic image, by Michel Beligond, of the # 12 Ferrari 250 TRI/60 powering its way out of the Esses and heading towards Tertre Rouge during the previous edition in 1960.

The combination of warm colors represents the arrival of dusk, highlighting the red Ferrari in the center of the poster. This year, 1961, the race was part of the Sports Car World Championship.

Mint condition.

It measures 5.4 x 8.4 inches and unfolds to 21.6 x 8.4 inches.

The race was won by Phil Hill and Olivier Gendebien in their Ferrari 250 TRI/61 (S/N 0794TR) with a total of 333 laps to their name.

For the full results of this race, please see 24 Heures du Mans results 1961.

Vintage 1961 Photo of Wolfgang Berghe von Trips at the GP Great Britain at Aintree

This is a vintage 1961 photo of Count Wolfgang Berghe von Trips (1928 - 1961) in the pits of Aintree in his Ferrari 156 Sharknose # 4, on July 13, 1961 during a practice session for the Grand Prix of Britain 2 days later.

This was a mere 2 months before he died at Monza race track!

The photo is in excellent condition (although not super sharp, it could be described as "somewhat soft-focus") and measures some 6.25 x 4.75 inches.

The photographer wrote "13-7-1961 W. von Trips" on the top border (visible in the scan). You can leave it there "as is", trim the borders off the photo or have it disappear under a matting when you have it framed.

Wolfgang would drive a Ferrari 156 Sharknose in this Grand Prix and although he only qualified in 4th position, he would go on to win the race.

A really great vintage and VERY late photo of von Trips.

Only 1 available.
