Vintage 1949 Le Mans 24 Hours Flyer

lm1949flyer
!

Vintage 1949 Le Mans 24 Hours Handbill.

These flyers were handed out at the race to spectators to show them around the track.

Scarce as most of them did not survive the race.

VERY good condition for its age.

The 1949 edition was the very first post WW2 24 Heures du Mans and it was won by Luigi Chinetti (with Lord Selsdon) in their Ferrari 166 MM Touring Barchetta S/N 0008MM with a total of 235 laps to their name.

The second Ferrari that was entered was the Ferrari 166 MM Touring Barchetta S/N 0010M of Jean Lucas & "Ferret" (Pierre Louis Dreyfus) which crashed out of the race after 53 laps.

Newly arrived Vintage Original 1950 24 Hours of Le Mans Program Booklet

Vintage 1950 Le Mans 24 Hours Race Program.

Near mint condition!

A GREAT set from only the second post-WW2 running of the 24 Heures du Mans.

The colour illustration on the cover is from the hand of Andre Galland, who also drew the 1949 version and a good number of cover illustrations for the pre-war programs.

1950 was a year of renewal at Le Mans. The facilities that were destroyed during the war and were rebuilt for the 1949 race are highlighted on the cover of the 1950 program.

Clearly visible are the right-hand turn passing under the footbridge and the pressbox on the inside of that turn.

This set consists of the following:

  • The program booklet itself in amazing condition. If it weren't for some very minor shelf wear to the cover, which is visible in the photographs, it would be in dead mint condition
  • The complementary, loose, track map in dead mint condition. When was the last time that you saw one of those???
  • The blank "Tableau de Pointage", the lap timing sheet, still attached to the original staple in the booklet

All in all, the best 1950 Le Mans program that we were ever able to offer for sale!

The booklet measures some 10.5 x 25 cm and contains 164 pages filled to the brim with information of the cars, the drivers, previous editions of the race, the track and of course great contemporary advertising.

The race was quite a disaster for Ferrari, following the glorious victory of Luigi Chinetti the previous year, as none of the 5 entered Ferraris made it to the finish...

The race was won by Louis and Jean-Louis Rosier in their Talbot Lago T26GS with a total of 256 laps to their name.

Vintage 1952 photo of Ferrari 340 America Vignale Spyder S/N 0204A at the Le Mans 24 Hours.

This vintage & original 1952 photo shows the Ferrari 340 America of Luigi Chinetti & Jean Lucas in the afternoon of June 14, 1952 during the 1952 running of the 24 Heures du Mans.

The duo was disqualified around 5.00 AM on Sunday due to an illegal refueling attempt.

The car in question is S/N 0204 A, a Vignale Spyder that now seems to reside in the USA.

The photo measures some 23 x 17.5 cm of 9 x 7 inches and is in good condition.

The back carries the stamp of the photographer.

This is a vintage print, i.e. printed shortly after the original image was captured on film.

Newly arrived Vintage 1953 24 Heures du Mans Program Booklet

Vintage 1953 Le Mans Race Program.

In excellent condition but obviously used and a small corner or the top of the rear cover missing (see photographs). Blank lap sheet with some scribbling in the margins.

Fantastic artwork by world renowned motorsport artist Geo Ham on both the front and rear cover.

Unlike the previous years, the artist has decided to show a slightly more symbolic face of the event.

The scene looks like the exit of the Mulsanne hairpin while the water tower, which was built by the Germans during World War 2, can be seen in the background on the left.

The race was won by Tony Rolt and Duncan Hamilton in their Jaguar C-Type with a total of 304 laps to their name.

Unfortunately, Tom Cole Jr. met his untimely end when he crashed the Ferrari 340 MM Vignale Spyder (S/N 0284MM), which he shared with 1949 Le Mans winner Luigi Chinetti, in lap 175.

1991 Luigi Chinetti 90th Birthday Menu Ferrari 670/91

670/91
!

This menu was issued on July 17, 1991 to celebrate the 90th birthday of Ferrari Legend Luigi Chinetti. Apart from building the Ferrari sales in North America, Chinetti Sr. is also renowned for winning the 1949 Le mans 24 Hr. almost single-handedly (the front page of the menu shows that feat) and for establishing the N.A.R.T.

Ferrari decided to "throw a party" for Chinetti in Modena at "Ristorante Laura" and this menu was used at the dinner.

It measures approximately 11.5 x 8.25 inches and folds open to double that size.

A truly rare piece.

Ferrari Print # 670/91.
