Here we have an original 1974 Monaco Grand Prix Race Poster.
The race was held on May 26, 1974 in the streets of Monte-Carlo.
This is one of the original posters that was actually hanging in the Principality of Monaco to advertise the 1974 Monaco Grand Prix.
Each year, the ACM (Automobile Club de Monaco, organizing body of the Monaco Grand Prix) issues a limited number of posters and distributes these amongst the hotels, cafés, restaurants and shops of Monte-Carlo with the intention that the shopkeepers etc actually display the posters to actually advertise the event.
To prevent these posters from being sold before the event, and thus rendering them useless as a publicity tool, these are usually marked with a text and in this case even a serial number!
In the middle of the "white" bottom border, it is marked "TIRAGE HORS COMMERCE . EXEMPLAIRE No 01114" which translates into as much as "Non-Commercial Edition . Copy number 01114".
Naturally, these posters are much more rare than the "normal" event posters which could be bought by the public before and during the race.
This particular one is one of those rare limited edition posters and has seen some proper use, which is visible in the photo. It has scratches, folds and nicks to it.
So, it is most definitely NOT in mint condition!
The photos are of the actual poster that is up for sale here, so please be your own judge on its condition but note that there is a fair degree of "camera glare" in the pictures due to the glossy finish of the poster.
The poster, produced by Edition J. Ramel in Nice, France, shows a fantastic, and very artistic, photo-montage of Emerson Fittipaldi's Lotus 72E, on his way to winning the 1973 edition, against a backdrop of the principality and its Mediterranean harbor and coastline. The photos are by photographer Bob Martin.
The race was won by Ronnie Peterson (Lotus), ahead of Jody Scheckter (Tyrrell) with Jean-Pierre Jarrier on Shadow completing the podium.
Scuderia Ferrari had entered a Ferrari 312 B3 for both Niki Lauda and Clay Regazzoni.
Regazzoni finished in 4th place while Lauda suffered from ignition problems while in the lead and failed to finish the race.
The poster measures some 62 x 42 cm or 24.4 x 16.5 inches.
Only 1 available.
This poster will be shipped rolled, in a sturdy tube.
