1962 Enzo Ferrari signed L'Automobile

Here we have a 1961 copy of the Italian book "L'automobile, Storia illustrata dalle origini ad oggi di Gianni Marin e Andrea Mattei".

This book, issued in 1961 by Schwarz editore in Milano, Italia told the story of many car makes, illustrated by countless pictures.

Of course, Ferrari was amongst the makes that were covered.

In 1962, Enzo signed page 212 of this book, right next to a photo of him racing an Alfa Romeo 6C 1500 in the 1920's.

The book comes with a page from a notepad that says in French (we acquired this from the estate of a famous French Ferrari personality) that page 212 was signed by Enzo Ferrari in Maranello at the famous restaurant Cavallino, across the street from the Ferrari factory.

For the record: the book measures some 30 x 20 cm (or 12 x 8 inches) and counts 255 pages.

1962 Willy Mairesse signed Ferrari Postcard

1962 Willy Mairesse signed Ferrari Postcard

This is an official Ferrari factory issued postcard of Willy Mairesse.

It appears to be the only Willy Mairesse dedicated piece of publicity material that the Ferrari factory ever issued and Michel Sauze determined it as having been issued in 1960.

Willy signed and dedicated the card himself on the front.

The text reads "A Sergio avec mes remerciements en souvenir du G.P. d'Italie 1962 W. Mairesse".

The text loosely translates into "To Sergio with my thanks as a memento for the 1962 Grand Prix of Italy".

Mairesse scored his second best place of his career during that 1962 Italian Grand Prix when he placed 4th in his Ferrari 156 Sharknose.

The image of Willy smiling is a rare one of the man that suffered from such deep depressions and who ultimately committed suicide in an Ostend hotel room in 1969.

The card is in near mint condition, especially considering its age.

There are only some very minor knocks to the left bottom corned as visible in the photos.

The rear shows the Shell logo, the Ferrari prancing horse, the Ferrari script logo and the text "Willy Mairesse".

This is a vintage 1962 colour photo of the factory entered Ferrari 330 TRI LM of Olivier Gendebien and Phil Hill en route to victory in the 1962 running of the 24 Heures du Mans.

In the photo, we see Olivier getting a hand to climb over the pit wall after his stint. Taking all aspects into account (like the shadows, the dirt on the car etc) this photo was taken around 11 o'clock in the morning of June 24, 1962 (how lovely it is to discover such details on a COLOR photo!).

The car, which bears race number 6 here is S/N 0808 (previously 0780TR, a 250 TR 60, which frame was lengthened, a Fantuzzi body was mounted and equipped with a 4 Liter 390 HP V12 engine) and which seems to reside in Argentina now.

This is a vintage 1962 photo of the 246SP, S/N 0796, during preparation for the 1962 Targa Florio.

The car would win the race, driven by Willy Mairesse, Ricardo Rodriguez and Olivier Gendebien.

The car in question is the 246 SP S/N 0796 which was later modified to serve as a mule for the Tipo 250 P and crashed during practice for the 1963 Targa Florio. The car burnt out completely and was assumed to have been scrapped although parts of it seem to survive.

In the background we see the # 108 Porsche 718 GTR of Nino Vaccarella and Jo Bonnier which would finish 3rd overall.

This is a vintage print, i.e. printed shortly after the original image was captured on film.

The photo measures some 5.5 x 3.5 inches or 13.5 x 9 cm and is in excellent condition. The back carries NO photographer' stamp.
