Vintage 1919 (!) Enzo Ferrari Targa Florio CMN Advertisement

Vintage 1919 (!) Enzo Ferrari Targa Florio CMN Advertisement.

This is an incredibly rare and VERY early Enzo Ferrari item!

Being born in 1898, Enzo took up an interest in cars at a very early age and after the death of both his father and his brother had to provide for himself and his widowed mother. After some mechanical jobs and having been declined a job at FIAT, due to lack of qualifications, he met Ugo Sivocci in 1919 who was a test driver at the Milanese car manufacturer CMN (Construzioni Meccaniche Nazionale) who were converting ex-WW1 militairy vehicles for civilian use but were planning to venture into more sporting cars.

Sivocci got Enzo a job at CMN as a test driver and it was here that Enzo ventured into his first automobile race, the Parma Poggio di Bercetta hillclimb on October 5th, 1919 where he came in 4th.

On November 23, 1919 both Sivocci and Enzo entered the grueling Targa Florio and drove their CMN race cars through the wind, rain & snow (!) on Sicily eventually finishing 2nd & 3rd in their class.

This vintage 1919 (possibly early 1920) advertisement was placed by CMN to promote their cars and the stunning results of their drivers in that race.

It proudly announces that they came in 2nd & 3rd in their class and that of the 21 starters, only 9 made it to the finish... they conveniently "forgot" to mention that Enzo's 3rd in class was actually 9th overall and therewith last...

In 1920 Enzo would switch to Alfa Romeo and the rest is history...

In this advertisement we see Ugo Sivocci proudly posing in the CMN of... Enzo!

This is the oldest vintage item that we have ever unearthed in which Enzo is actually mentioned as a racing driver!

A little bit more can be told about Ugo Sivocci as when Enzo moved to Alfa Romeo in 1920, Sivocci followed suit and he was hired to participate in the three-men Alfa Corse team (Enzo, Antonio Ascari & Sivocci). In 1923 he won the Targa Florio outright in an Alfa Romeo RL. He died on September 8, 1923 while testing the new Alfa Romeo P1 at Monza. His car carried race number 17 and following his accident, the # 17 would never again be assigned to an Italian racing car...

A FANTASTIC period piece that is exceptionally well suited for framing!

It measures approximately 29 x 39 cm or 11.5 x 15.5 inches.

Only 1 available.

Vintage 1926 Photo of Enzo Ferrari with Amedeo Ruggeri and Sons

Vintage 1926 Photo of Enzo Ferrari with Amedeo Ruggeri and Sons - Motorcycle Racing at Piazza d'Armi in Modena.

This is an incredibly rare and VERY unusual Enzo Ferrari item!

This photo, which is vintage but the exact age is unknown, shows a, relatively, young Enzo Ferrari together with motorcycle racing champion Amedeo Ruggeri and Amedeo's 10 and 11 year old sons Gigi and Jader who are ready to take to the track at the Piazza d'Armi in Modena.

Enzo had always a keen interest in motorcycle racing but as his endeavors in car racing are much better documented, very little is known about his two-wheeled efforts.

It is however known that between 1932 and 1934 the Scuderia Ferrari did employ a good number of motorcycles for their racing clientele and that the Moderna workshop did have separate facilities to tune and repair Norton and Rudge motorcycles.

Quite a unique piece of Ferrari history!

It measures approximately 17.5 x 12.5 cm or 7 x 5 inches.

Only 1 available.

1954 Enzo Ferrari signed contract with Maurice Trintignant

!

1954 Enzo Ferrari signed contract with Maurice Trintignant.

Here we have a historically VERY important Scuderia Ferrari item.

This is the original contract that Enzo Ferrari signed with Maurice Trintignant to become a Ferrari works driver in the 1954 season.

The contract is dated March 16, 1954 and covers the terms and conditions under which Trintignant will race.

To make this letter extra special, the back shows the prolongation for the 1955 season.

During these two years, Maurice Trintignant competed in 16 F1 Grand Prix for Scuderia Ferrari, raking up 1 win (Monaco 1955), 2 second places and 1 third place plus winning the 1954 running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Enzo signed both the original contract on the front as well as the 1955 continuation on the back.

Comes complete with a contemporary portrait photo of Maurice Trintignant.

We can not express how rare such an item is and how important it is in the history of the Ferrari racing team.

!

This is an official Ferrari factory issued postcard of Michael "Mike" Parkes that has been signed by "The Drake", Enzo Ferrari, himself on May 12, 1963.

The handwritten text on the back reads "Grazie 12/5/63" and is signed by Enzo in his characteristic violet ink.

The card is in very good condition but has a slight fold down the middle and it looks like two drops of water have been spilled on the back, one hit the "5" in the date, the other the "a" in the signature (see scan).

Nevertheless, a VERY rare card in VERY presentable condition.

1987 Enzo Ferrari signed Photo with Envelope

enzo08
!

This is an official Ferrari factory issued photo of the Grand Old Man, Enzo Ferrari, personally signed by him on the back.

The photo is dated February 1987 (a mere 1,5 years before his death in 1988) and would later become infamous as it is about the last photo of Enzo that was publicized by the factory and later adorn his obituary.

The photo was mailed to a gentleman in Germany on February 23, 1987 as a thank you for the best wishes that Enzo had received from him.

The photo comes complete with the original envelope but please note that we intentionally blacked-out the name & address in the digital scan to preserve the gentleman's privacy. This does NOT effect the actual envelope!

Enzo signed the photo himself in his characteristic violet ink.

A fantastic relic from the final period of Enzo's life!
