January 14 1953 Enzo Ferrari signed letter with discussion on Ferrari 212 Inter S/N 0215EL
enzo03

This is a set of documents with a discussion on the 212 Inter Touring Berlinetta Aerlux S/N 0215EL between Andre Meert, the first owner, and Ferrari.

The set consists of two documents.

The first one is carbon copy (a vintage one) of the letter that was sent to Ferrari by Andre Meert on December 30, 1952 requesting technical information on the engine (such as compression rate, power output and at which RPM that was achieved as well as the end reduction. It has "Rappel" (French for reminder) written on it in turkish blue fountain pen ink + the date 16/1/53 in pencil which means that a reminder was sent to Ferrari on Janaury 16, 1953.

This document comes on very thin gauge paper as was customary in those days. Good condition but fraying on the right hand side as visible in the scan.

The second document is the reply from Ferrari, dated January 14, 1953.

It comes on Ferrari Automobili letter head and replies in Italian to the request of Andre Meert. This letter is signed by Enzo Ferrari in his customary violet ink. It lists the requested data and is in excellent condition. It has "212 Inter" written on it in the same turkish blue fountain pen ink as the first document which leads me to believe that those notes come from Andre Meert.

The two documents have been clipped together for ages with a small paper clip which have left minor rust traces (visible in the scans). The original paper clip is present and comes with this set.

About the car:

The letter from Andre Meert mentions that they took delivery of the car in August 1952. It is more or less implied that they took delivery straight from the factory but the car was constructed in 1951.

Andre Meert raced the car in the 1953 "Coupe de Spa" to a third place.

Somewhere between 1953 and 1987 the car ended up with Paul Schouwenburg in The Netherlands.

In 1987 the car was in the hands of Gatti in Italy and it got the engine from S/N 0193EL installed.

It was entered in the 1988 Mille Miglia by Zuccari / Amadori from Italy.

It was entered in the 1989 Mille Miglia by Ferrari / Ferrari from Italy.

It sold at the May 1999 Brooks auction in Monaco for FFR 1,377,226.
