Vintage 1961 set of 4 photos of Ferrari 156 F1 Shark Nose prototypes / mock-ups

156 protos
!

Vintage 1961 set of 4 photos of Ferrari 156 F1 Shark Nose prototypes / mock-ups.

This is a set of 4 vintage photos dating from either late 1960 or early 1961 of the 120 degrees V6 engine, the tubular frame and 2 x what appears to be a wooden mock-up of the total car of the famous Ferrari 156 Sharknose.

We'll describe each photo in detail for you.

1)
The engine. Measures 18 x 12 cm (7 x 5 inches) and shows a detailed view of what looks to be the complete (working?) engine. The engine was originally photographed in an engine stand but the stand itself has been whited out (probably for publication in a magazine).

2)
The space frame. Measures 18 x 13 cm (7 x 5 inches) and shows the complete space frame with front & rear suspension, pedals, coolant tank but no steering shaft and no fuel tanks.

3)
Shot # 1 of the mock-up. Side view. Not entirely sure what the mock-up is made of or which scale it is. The wheels look to be made of turned wood but the body surface shows severe cracks (was it covered in some kind of clay for detailed modeling?). Measures 18 x 12 cm (7 x 5 inches).

4)
Shot # 2 of the mock-up. Three quarter rear view. Measures 18 x 13 cm (7 x 5 inches).

All 4 photos carry the stamp of "Foto G. Mantovani" in Modena, Italy. In addition, they carry a stamp "Photo by Gordon Wilkins" but this was merely put there (back in 1961) to mark those copies as his property; the photographer is Mantovani.

Wilkins worked, amongst others, as a journalist and TV personality and these photographs originate from his archive.

A MUST-HAVE for the true 156 Sharknose aficionado!

Vintage Original 1961 Counter Top Monaco Grand Prix Race Poster

mon1961
!

Vintage Original 1961 Monaco Grand Prix Counter-Top Poster.

An a very simple and relatively small but oh so rare poster...

These posters could be seen hanging throughout the principality of Monaco prior to the race in 1961 but this one is a little more special...

This particular one is executed as a counter-top version and it is the very first one in this execution that we ever managed to lay our hands on.

This poster features the best logo we have ever seen with the racing car and "MONACO" perfectly integrated into it!

Rumour has it that this poster was banned by the organizers as they deemed the black background to be too morbid at that time. Maybe the rumour is true... but we don't have knowledge of an alternative poster for the 1961 Monaco Grand Prix... so...

The race was, famously, won by Stirling Moss on Lotus 18 ahead of Richie Ginther, Phil Hill and Wolfgang Berghe von Trips, all on Ferrari 156 Sharknose.

Considering its age, it is over half a century old, we dare to call this unusual Monaco "poster" to be in mint condition.

9.8 x 12.5 inches or some 25 x 30 cm.

Only 1 available.

ENORMOUS Vintage 1961 photo of the Grand Prix of Italy at the Autodromo di Monza

monza02
!

This is a vintage 1961 B&W photo of the pack coming through the Parabolica turn during the 1961 Grand Prix of Italy at the Autodromo di Monza.

The photo shows not less than FIVE of the famous Ferrari 156 Sharknose cars in 1 single view!

This race would of course go down in hisory as one of the most dramatic ever as seconds after this photo was taken, the Ferrari of Wolfgang von Trips and the Lotus of Jim Clark would get tangled up and von Trips would lose his life in the resulting crash.

Going through the cars in the picture, starting at the bottom, we see the following drivers:

It is amazing to see that only 2 out of the above 9 drivers are still alive today...

This photo measures a staggering 12 x 9.5 inches.

It is in mint condition for its age.

Please note that this photo is too big for our scanner so we had to digitally "stich" two scans together to be able to present the total image. The horizontal line at the bottom of the image is a result of that. This is NOT visible in the actual photo!

The back carries the photographer's stamp.

Only 1 available.

Phil Hill signed 1959 Fuller Brush Catalog.

In 1959 Ferrari enthusiast Howard Fuller, owner of the Fuller Brush Company, issued a special catalog to honour up-and-coming man Phil Hill.

The catalog contains many photo's of Phil racing Ferraris, at the Ferrari factory, tinkering with his cars and during leisure time.

These catalogs are now very much collector's items and a relatively rare find in mint condition.

Here we have a totally mint examply that was mailed out to Mr. Eugene H. Baker of Landisville, PA, USA.

Mr. Baker had the catalog signed by Phil Hill shortly thereafter. Phil used a black ballpoint for the signature.

Truly a rare find with this vintage autograph !
