1949 Ferrari 166 MM Brochure

166MMBROCH
!

1949 Ferrari 166 MM Brochure.

Here we have a very odd brochure for the 166 Mille Miglia which shows the 1949 24 Heures du Mans winning 166 MM Touring Barchetta (S/N 0010M) on the cover...

This brochure came from the estate of the late Richard Veen and it has been restored by him.

In fact, there is probably more of this brochure that can be considered "non-original" than there is original...

I'll try to sum up its condition using my best judgment.

The outside of the front page / cover is NON-original, it appears to be a photo copy on yellowish paper.

It is hard to say if the inside of the front cover is original. I think it is NOT original as otherwise there would be no need to replace the outside with a photocopy.

The rear cover + inside rear page ARE original BUT... somehow the Ferrari logo at the center bottom was cut out of it and Richard Veen replaced that with paper patches, copying the original print.

We find it extremely hard to pin a price to this piece so we are open to sensible offers which reflect both the rarity of the brochure AND its current condition.

Please contact us at the following email address if the brochure is worth something to you: info@FerrariStuff.com.

The second Ferrari that was entered was the Ferrari 166 MM Touring Barchetta S/N 0010M of Jean Lucas & "Ferret" (Pierre Louis Dreyfus) which crashed out of the race after 53 laps.

Vintage 1949 Le Mans 24 Hours Race Program.

Excellent but of course used condition.

Comes complete with the lap chart and an Air France ticket from London to Paris for the race!

A GREAT set from the first post WW2 running of the 24 Heures du Mans.

The colour illustration on the cover is from the hand of Andre Galland, who would also draw the 1950 version and a good number of cover illustrations for the pre-war programs.

The postwar period was full of hope for all nations. The flags were present but this time they surrounded the globe in a fraternal spirit. The race was no longer supposed to be a source of rivalry but of solidarity.

New flags were present on the illustration. From left to right and top to bottom: The United Kingdom, Norway, Belgium, France, The United States, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Italy and The Czech Republic.

1950 Targa Florio Advertising Poster - Vintage Original.

This is a great VINTAGE poster for the 34th running of the Targa Florio / 10th running of the Giro di Sicilia.

It urges you to buy the race program which is available at every news stand and costs a mere 30 Lira.

It is printed on very thin paper and is in excellent condition bar a small tear at the top (visible in the scan) and two tape marks from being displayed in 1950. Folded as original but stored flat for decades.

Maybe the only one left in the world?

The race was won by Mario & Franco Bornigia on Alfa Romeo 8C-2500 Sperimentale.

Second place was for Inico Bernabei & Tulio Pacini on Ferrari 166 MM (S/N 0036M) which survives to this day) while third place went to Baron Stefano La Motta (would get killed the next year at the same event...) & Gennaro Alterio on Ferrari 166 S (S/N 0011S) which was scrapped after La Motta was killed in it).

Newly arrived Vintage 1952 Photo of Ferrari 166 Inter Vignale Coupe S/N 0065S

Vintage 1952 Photo of Ferrari 166 Inter Vignale Coupe S/N 0065S.

This is a vintage photo of Ferrari 166 Inter Vignale Coupe after it had been exported to the USA in 1952.

The car can be seen wearing a 1952 New Jersey license plate which is somewhat contradictory to the "official history" of the car which lists it as having been exported to Florida.

The car had previously been entered in the 1951 Mille Miglia, which it didn't finish, and although it appears to be in pretty good nick on the photo, closer inspection shows it to be somewhat battered.

Nowadays the cars seems to be residing in Italy again.

The photo measures some 12.5 x 10.5 cm (or 5 x 4 inches) and is in more than excellent condition for its age.

Vintage 1953 Photo, Giulio Musitelli on Ferrari 166 MM Abarth S/N 0262M, Targa Florio.

This is a vintage 1953 photo of the Abarth-bodied Ferrari 166MM of Giulio Musitelli being towed back onto the road after an off into a field during the 1953 Targa Florio which he would still finish in 21st place.

This is a vintage print, i.e. printed shortly after the original image was captured on film.

The car, S/N 0262M, was originally delivered as a Vignale Spyder in March 1953 but quickly rebodied as a Spider by Abarth for the May 1953 Targa Florio (its maiden race).

In 1954 it was again rebodied, this time by Scaglietti and again as a Spyder.

In recent years it has been brought back to its Abarth body style again.

It seems to reside in the USA now.

The photo measures some 4 x 3 inches or 10 x 7 cm and is in excellent condition. The back carries the stamp of Randazzo in Palermo, Italy along with some penciled annotations.

The car carried race number 50 but unfortunately failed to finish the race while in 25th position.

The car now seems to reside in the USA.

2 Vintage 1970s photos of Ferrari 166 Inter Stablimenti Farina Cabriolet S/N 011S

011S-01
!

Here we have a set of 2 vintage 1970's Polaroid photos of Ferrari 166 Inter Stablimenti Farina Cabriolet S/N 011S.

S/N 011S is the 1949 Geneva Motorshow car and was delivered to famous Italian movie director Roberto Rossellini in March of that year.

The car passed through a number of hands until it ended up with an owner in Massachusetts around 1976. That owner offered it for sale in 1979 and it seems to reside in Nevada since 1984.

Judging by the Massachusetts "Antique" number plate and other photographs that we acquired from the same source, these photos were taken between 1976 and 1979 during a classic car event in the USA.

Although the quality is not that great, one can clearly distinguish severeal important details and that by this period, the car was no longer in its original "Pea green" livery but red and was missing the front bumper.

Each photo measures some 8 x 8 cm or 3 x 3 inches (standard Polaroid size).

The base is made of white celluloid with the Ferrari logo in relief on the top.

Good condition for its age.
