This poster is part of the so-called "Modern Photographic Approach" era in Le Mans posters which lasted from 1964 - 1971.

The 1970 Le Mans poster is based on a photograph by Le Mans photographer Andre Delourmel of the start of the 1969 edition.

Layout and production of the poster were in the hands of Imprimerie Oberthur.

The unusual photo was taken trackside in 1969, only a few seconds after the start. The number 12 Porsche 917 was the most powerfull car ever entered at Le Mans until then. The driver puts down the power and smokes the tires as the brute speeds away in a perfectly controlled slide.

The race was won by Richard Attwood & Hans Herrmann in their Porsche 917K (S/N 023) with a total of 343 laps to their name.

For the full results of this race, please see 24 Heures du Mans results 1970.
